IEOR faculty and students attended International Conference on Game Theory and Operations Research Applications (GTORA 2012) organised at ISI Chennai on Jan 5-7, 2012.  A workshop on Game theory was held on Jan 3rd and 4th.

Dr. Jayendran Venkateswaran attended the International Conference on Advances in Supply Chain and Manufacturing Management (ICASCMM 2011) held during Dec 16th - 18th 2011, at IIT Kharagpur, India.  The conference was organized by Dept. of Industrial Engg. and Management of IIT Kgp. He presented the paper on "Impact of Control Parameters on Bullwhip Measure of Production-Inventory Systems", co-authored with Dr. Bijulal (College of Engg., Trivandrum) and Dr. N. Hemachandra (IIT Bombay).

N. Hemachandra participates in AMOC-2011

Prof N. Hemachandra has presented an invited paper `Performance analysis of a delay dependent priority queue arising from a joint pricing and queue management model' at International Conference on Advances in Modeling, Optimization and Computing, AMOC-2011, conducted by Department of Mathematics, IIT Roorkee, 5--7 December, 2011. This is a joint work with Bharat Singh Raghav. He also chaired a session.

Dr. R. Badri Narayan gives a talk

Dr. R. Badri Narayan, General Manager (R and D), Centre for Railway Information Systems gave a talk on "CRIS: The IT Engine of Indian Railways" on 29th September, 2011.

The talk was about the kind of applications CRIS handles for the Indian Railways and the challenges involved in development and implementation. The last part of the talk was specifically about the time tabling software being developed currently and the issues that are sought to be addressed using this application.

A CEP session by Prof N. Hemachandra

Prof N. Hemachandra conducted a session `Basics of MILPs' on 16th September, 2011, in the CEP course `Advanced Power System Analysis' for Researchers and Engineers from CDAC and Intel India. This CEP is conducted by Prof S. A. Soman, EE, at CDAC, Bangalore during 14--16, September, 2011.

Tilak Raj Singh, PhD Student Attends OR 2011 Conference

Tilak Raj Singh, PhD student attended the OR 2011 Conference held at Zurich between August 30 and September 2, 2011.  He gave a presentation on "Calculation of constructible set of configurations for product variety management". This is a joint work with Prof. Narayan Rangaraj, Andreas Schuette (DIAMLER AG, Germany) and Christian Schlange (DIAMLER AG, Germany).

Two lectures by Dr. Yogeshwaran Dhandapani
Dr. Yogeshwaran Dhandapani is delivering two lectures on Percolation Theory.

The abstracts of the two talks are as follows:

1) Introduction to basic percolation model ; Existence of a non-trivial phase transition ; Sub-exponential decay in the sub-critical phase.

2) Uniqueness of the infinite cluster ; The critical probability is 1/2 in two dimensions

The talks should be elementary in nature and should be accessible to people with reasonable background in Probability.

Violet Bhattacharya received Institute Silver Medal for 2011

Ms. Violet Bhattacharya, M.Tech IEOR, received the Institute Silver Medal for the year 2010-11.  The Silver medal was awarded to her for standing first in her M.Tech class by obtaining the highest CPI.   The award was presented during the 49th Convocation held on 5th August 2011.   Violet's Master's thesis was on "The Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem - Recent Developments and Analysis of Effects of Parameters", under the guidance of Prof. P.G. Awate.

D.Bijulal received Award for Excellence in Thesis for 2011

Dr. D. Bijual, Ph.D in IEOR, receievd an Award for Excellence in Thesis for the year 2010-11.  The award is given to a selected set of students in the Ph.D. programme for their exemplary contributions during their Thesis work, overall academic performance and contributions during the student's tenure in the doctoral programme.  The award was presented during the 49th Convocation of IIT Bombay held on 5th August 2011.

Jayendran Venkateswaran attends 2011 Int'l Conference of SDS

Dr. Jayendran Venkaetswaran attended the 29th International Conference of the System Dynamics Society held during July 24th - 29th 2011, at Washington, DC, USA .  He presented the paper on "Simulation based Analysis of Service Levels in Stable Production-Inventory Systems", co-authored with Mr. Kaushik Margabandu, Dr. Bijulal and Prof. N. Hemachandra.

 

Vikas Vikram Singh attends 8th International ISDG Workshop

Vikas Vikram Singh, a PhD student, participated in 8th International ISDG Workshop (http://www.gerad.ca/colloques/isdg2011/) during 21-23 of July, 2011 at Padova, Italy. He presented a paper `Constrained stochastic game with independent state processes: A mathematical programming approach', co-authored with Prof N. Hemachandra.

IEOR faculty and student attend 2011 INFORMS Simulation Society Research Workshop

Ketki Kulkarni, PhD student, along with Prof. Jayendran Venkateswaran presented their work titled "Scheduling in stochastic job shops using hybrid simulation and optimization approaches" at the 2011 INFORMS Simulation Society Research Workshop. This was held at Montreal, Canada between July 18-20, 2011.

Prof. Jayendran also presented his work on "Production planning using hybrid optimization-simulation based approach" at the same workshop. This is a joint work with Vivek Sharma, Dual Degree student, Mechanical Engineering.

IEOR students attend IFORS-2011

Three students of IEOR attended the 19th Triennial Conference of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS2011) held on July 10-15, 2011 at Melbourne, Australia. 

Krishna Chaitanya Vanam (Graduate student) chaired a session "Innovative Applications in Game Theory" and presented a paper on "A New Excess-based Solution Concept for Cooperative TU Games", co-authored with Prof. N Hemachandra.

Prof. Sreekar Vadlamani gives a course on "Stochastic Analysis: Malliavin Calculus"

Prof. Sreekar Vadlamani, Visiting Faculty of IEOR, will be giving a series of lectures on "Stochastic Analysis: Malliavin Calculus". The first lecture will be held in Seminar Hall (Ground Floor) of CSE building at 11AM on 5th July.

D. Bijulal defended his Ph.D. thesis

D.Bijulal defended his Ph.D. thesis titled "Stability and Service Level based Control of Some Forward and Reverse Flow Production - Inventory Systems" on 30 June, 2011. The external examiner for the defence was Prof.Pratap.K.J Mohapatra from IIT Kharagpur. Bijulal is working as an associate professor in College of Engineering Trivandrum, Thiruvananthapuram.

IEOR participates in TechConnect 2011

Students of IEOR participated in the TechConnect Exhibition (January 7-9, 2011) as part of TechFesh at IIT Bombay and creatively displayed the extent of problems under the gamut of IEOR. The exhibition had displays of simulated models and agent based simulation theme, interesting puzzles like Sudoku solver, fun representation of  concepts like Markov Chains, applications of IEOR in varied areas such as railway operations, game  theory and so on.

Dileep More gets Award for Excellence in Thesis Work

Dileep More received the award for Excellence in Thesis Work. The award was distributed on 06th August 2010 in the  48th
Convocation. The award includes a Certificate/Citation and Rs 20,000/-. He joined in IIM Calcutta as an assistant professor after completing PhD from IEOR in 2009.
