Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR) an interdisciplinary programme at IIT Bombay celebrates IEOR Day every year.
This year it will be celebrated online on 10th (Saturday) of April
2021. The theme of this year's event is The Pandemic: Living through & Looking Beyond.
Many leading experts from academia and industry will present and discuss their ongoing work and future challenges
during the event. One of the goals of this event is to bring together people in industry and academia who are working
in the areas of IE&OR.

Industrial Engineering and Operations Research is a interdisciplinary programmes in IIT Bombay, IEOR offers research based M.Tech., Ph.D. and M.Sc.-Ph.D. dual degree programmes, and is actively involved in research (including sponsored projects), consulting and continuing education. The discipline offers a blend of theory, modelling and application, drawing from traditional as well as modern areas of operations research, together with a systems view derived from long-standing principles of industrial engineering.

Topic: Innovative Optimization & Data Science solutions in Supply Chain Industry
Dr. Amit Garg, a Guinness World Record holder in Mathematics is the Founder and Chief Scientist at ORMAE. ORMAE registered in USA, UAE and India is a fast growing Operations Research and Data Science Consulting and training firm whose cutting edge innovative solutions enable customers to maximize their revenue potential and achieve highly efficient operations with minimum costs.
He has decade of industry experience in Optimization and Analytics area in leading MNCs in USA like Amazon, Genesys, Penske to name a few. He completed PHd in Operations Research from Case Western University after completing B.Tech and M.S from IIT, Delhi. He has worked in various industries like Supply Chain, Transportation and Logistics, Automotive, e-Commerce, ITeS and Finance. He has expertise in Optimization Techniques, Mathematical modeling (MIP, IP, LP), Heuristics and Meta-Heuristics. He has applied these in solving complex large scale optimization problems in Supply Chain and Logistics. He is a mentor to various organizations and has been honoured guests in global conferences, Corporates and Universities.
His world record was accepted by "Guinness World Records", "Ripley's Believe it or not", "The Book of Alternative Records, UK", "Limca Book of World Records". He became the first Indian to win a silver medal in mental calculation world championship in Londin, UK. He has represented India in many global championships and done many math shows. He was covered by media in India, UAE, New Zealand,Mauritius and other countries for his achievement and math shows.

Topic: Role of building responsible AI during pandemic
Ankit Rai is currently a Research Scientist at Amazon and works on developing computer vision (CV) algorithms for video recognition. He has more than 7 years of experience in developing CV-based solutions for various problems. He completed his Ph.D. in Informatics from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign where he developed the framework for identifying landscape objects from aerial images and contributed his work to the open-source community. He also worked with the World Bank investigation team on developing models to detect fraud, collusion, and corruption from their international development contracts as a part of the Data Science for Social Good fellowship, University of Chicago.
The Internet industry has seen rapid adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in recent years. With the covid-19 pandemic, the industry played a significant role in bringing communities together and provided safe and essential services to many at their doorstep. This talk would provide my learnings of how AI technologies have played an important role during the pandemic and future opportunities
Topic: Looking beyond prediction and forecasting: AI-driven adaptive decision-making in industrial operations
Harshad Khadilkar is a senior scientist with Tata Consultancy Services Ltd where he leads the Planning & Control team, and is also a visiting associate professor at the department of aerospace engineering, IIT Bombay. He holds a bachelor in technology from IIT Bombay, and a Masters and PhD from the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The Covid-19 pandemic has made the industrial operations community aware of two things. First, no matter how sophisticated the technique, forecasting and prediction algorithms are useful only when changes to the system are small. Second, when there are large and abrupt changes to the operating environment, human operators may experience decision paralysis, or may even be unavailable for some period of time. In these scenarios, it becomes important to have an automated decision-making system in place. Furthermore, this system must be able to adapt to the "new normal" with zero or minimal human intervention. This talk will cover solution approaches for such problems, including real-world examples.
Topic: The future of supply chain careers & how to prepare for it
Dr. Madhav Durbha is Vice President of Supply Chain Strategy at Coupa Software, market leader in Business Spend Management. His prior leadership roles included i2 Technologies, BlueYonder, Kinaxis, and LLamasoft (now part of Coupa). Over two decades of his tenure he advised leading corporations in their digital transformation efforts. He is recognized with the prestigious 'Supply Chain Pro to Know' award for 2017 and 2020. He is featured as a supply chain expert in BBC and Forbes, among other media outlets.
With supply chain disruptions triggered by COVID-19, Suez Canal Crisis, Semiconductor chip shortage and global plastic shortage from Texas winter storms, supply chains have risen to the C-suite. This is placing supply chain profession in the spotlight opening up tremendous opportunities. In this session, we will explore the future of supply chain careers and how to prepare for it.
Topic: Industry Interaction for meaningful projects in a post Covid era
Vijay Srirangan took over as the Director General of Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry in February 2016. Prior to this he had spent thirty-six years with the Tata Group as a part of the Tata Administrative Services (TAS) focused in Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
During his career, he has had a wide spectrum of responsibilities which includes Training, Applied Technology Research, International Sales, Turnkey Engagements as well as Systems Integration. He was associated with Tata Accounts at TCS.
He is a Gold Medalist from IIT Delhi as well as from IIM Ahmadabad.
