Abstract: Evolutionarily stable strategies (ESSs) and their dynamic properties are instrumental in explaining long time behaviour of individuals in various game theory models. As the evolutionary theory for stochastic games is in its infancy, we develop further properties of ESS and replicator dynamics in stochastic games. Using the evolutionary stochastic game model, we propose equivalent definitions for Nash equilibrium and ESS, and consider a modified replicator dynamics to model the evolution of population states. Furthermore, strategies that are robust against equilibrium entrants are studied in this framework and their connections with Nash equilibrium and ESS are discussed. The main result is concerned with the dynamic stability of the set of population distributions inducing an ESS in evolutionary stochastic games.
