SATURDAY, 12th NOVEMBER 2005 VENUE: ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING SEMINAR HALL (EESH), NEAR EE BLDG The
symposium is being organized for Researchers, Doctoral, Master's and
senior undergraduate students, and teachers working in the broad areas
of IE and OR. It aims to provide a spectrum of talks, some of which are
overviews of established areas in OR, and and others report some
ongoing work. We hope to provide an exposure to students about research
possibilities that can be pursued at the IEOR programme at IIT Bombay,
and in other research groups.
The speakers are mostly drawn from academic and research institutions in Mumbai.
George Dantzig (who proposed the Simplex Method) and Leonid Khachiyan
(who proposed the Ellipsoid Algorithm), both passed away earlier in
2005. They were pioneers in two facets of Linear Programming and
related areas, which form the most popular set of ideas in Operations
Research today. The symposium is partly to celebrate their lives and
contributions to this field.
IEOR invites research scholars, students and all professionals to
participate in the Symposium. Those who wish to attend, kindly register
yourself by sending a e-mail to our Symposium Co-ordinator, N.
Hemachandra at nh@iitb.ac.in with the subject as "OR Symposium".
Please mention in your e-mail: Name, Current academic/ professional
status, Affiliation and travel plans for those coming from outside
Mumbai.
We will make arrangements for local hospitality for a limited number of
out station Ph.D. and Master's students who wish to participate in the
Symposium; we regret not being able to support their travel.
