The ninth meeting of Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes held at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata during December 12 - 16, 2014. IEOR students Ashish Chandra, Akash P.B., Sandhya Tripathi, Ravi Kant Rai, Arko Chatterjee, M. Venkateswararao. K, Kaushal Kumar Singh Gautam and Debayan Das attended this meeting.
Prof. V. Kavitha gave a talk in this meeting.
Manu K. Gupta, M.Sc-Ph.D. student, presented the paper titled "On mean waiting time completeness and equivalence of EDD and HOL-PJ dynamic priority schemes in 2-class M/G/1 queue", a joint work with Prof. N. Hemachandra and Prof. Jayendran Venkateswaran, in the 8th International Conference on Performance Evaluation Methodologies and Tools (ValueTools).
The conference was held during December 9-11, 2014, at Bratislava, Slovakia. This is a focused conference in the areas related to random systems. More details can be seen here.
Ketki Kulkarni, Ph.D. student, presented the paper titled "Iterative simulation and optimization approach for job shop scheduling", a joint work with Prof. Jayendran Venkateswaran, in the Winter Simulation Conference. The Winter Simulation Conference (WSC) is the premier international forum for disseminating recent advances in the field of system simulation.
Ketki also gave a short talk and presented poster in PhD colloquium during conference.
The written test and interviews for admissions to the January 2015 semester of the Ph.D. programme of IEOR will be held as per the institute schedule.
IEOR office, earlier located in room 308A in Mechanical Engineering building, has been relocated to room 323 in the same building. Also, Prof. P.G. Awate's and Prof. Narayan Rangaraj's offices have been shifted to room 304C and room 323 in the same building, respectively. The phone numbers of all the three offices remain unchanged.
Ratnaji Vanga, a fourth-year Ph.D. student, presented the paper titled "Facility Location Models for Pallet Supply Chain with End-of-life Tracking", a joint work with Prof. Jayendran Venkateswaran and Prof. Narayan Rangaraj, in the Joint Symposium on 44th International Conference on Computers & Industrial Engineering (CIE 44) and 9th International Symposium on Intelligent Manufacturing and Service Systems (IMSS’44).
The symposium was held during October 14-16, 2014, at Istanbul, Turkey.
Anu Thomas defended his Ph.D. thesis titled "Approaches to supply chain coordination: Decomposed and decentralised decision making models" on October 17, 2014. He was jointly advised by Prof. Jayendran Venkateswaran at IIT-B, Prof. Mohan Krishnamoorthy at Monash University, Australia and Dr. Gaurav Singh at CSIRO, Australia. IEOR team wishes Dr. Anu Thomas all the best in his future endeavors.
