IEOR Day organised on March 18, 2017

IEOR Day was organized on 18th March 2017 with an objective to bring together industry experts, faculty, students and alumni to discuss developments and share ideas in this field. The theme for the day was analytics.

Prof. N. Hemachandra, Prof. Narayan Rangaraj, Prof. P. V. Balaji (Dean R&D), Dr. Siddhartha Sengupta (keynote speaker and retired from TCS) and Dr. Ashwani Kumar (keynote speaker and General Manager, Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS)) inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp, followed by welcome address from Prof. N. Hemachandra. Dr. Siddhartha Sengupta then delivered the first keynote talk of the day on 'Advanced Analytics: A non-linear Information and Communication Technology Services innovation'. Later, Dr. Ashwani Kumar took the stage to deliver second keynote talk of the event on 'A Practical Perspective on Big Data and Analytics: Hype vs Hands-on'.

After a tea-break, the first panel discussion on 'The Impact of Operations Research and Analytics on Industry' was conducted. This was followed by lunch during which students from IEOR displayed posters of their work. Post lunch, alumni from IEOR and faculty gave short talks. This was followed by the second panel discussion on the topic 'Current research and development activities in analytics (in particular, IEOR aspects of it) in Indian industry'.

After the talks concluded, Prof. P. G. Awate and Prof. A. Subash Babu were felicitated for founding the IEOR interdisciplinary program at IIT Bombay and their long-standing contributions in taking IEOR to new heights. Then, the winners of Big Buck Challenge analytics competition for students were awarded prizes by McKinsey Knowledge Center India. Later, after the conclusion of the event, a dinner party was organised for the alumni.
