IE 802 Topics in IEOR: Advanced Stochastic Simulation

Industrial Engineering & Operations Research, IIT Bombay

  • Class Meeting hours:     Slot 8 (Mondays and Thursdays 14.00 - 13.25)

  • Venue:     ME207

  • Course Syllabus    This course will cover a few advanced topics and recent developments in stochastic simulation of complex systems, and efficient simulation based decision making methodologies.
Topics include: Advanced random number generation/testing, advanced input/output analysis, bootstrapping, advanced variance reduction methods, importance sampling, optimal computing budget allocation, rare-event simulation, Agent Based Simulation, Monte Carlo Markov Chains, System Dynamics methodology, distributed & parallel simulation, validation and verification, meta modelling, design of simulation experiments, stochastic optimization using simulation, and other state-of-the-art techniques and methods in simulation.

    • The specific plan for the semester will be discussed in class during the first week.

  • Prerequisites

    • IE 603; Good knowledge of basics in modelling and simulation based analysis of discrete event systems is expected.

  • Other Information

    • This course will be an advanced version and extension to the course IE603. It is primarily intended as a post graduate course for students pursuing research in the area of simulation modelling and analysis.
    • For PhD students this course should be helpful  with their research work; and for MTech students, this course will help them understand what research is about.

    • The course will include the regular lectures, assignments, study of current literature and a research project.
