Title: Commercial and Operations Planning Models in Airlines

Speaker: Dr. Ankur Garg

Day, Date and Time:  Thursday, Jan 27,2022, 6:00 p.m.

Abstract: Given the high fixed costs and expensive resources, the airlines have a critical need for optimal planning such that they can serve the demand with the right value proposition (flight frequency, timings, aircraft type) and utilise their resources (aircraft, crew, ground staff) to optimal levels. Operations Research models are extensively used in various commercial and operations planning phases of airlines. Starting with flight schedule design, the mixed integer programing models have been formulated for optimal fleet assignment and aircraft rotations for commercial planning. On the operations front, the crew scheduling and ground staff scheduling models are prime instances of integer programming application. This talk provides a quick overview of different planning phases and associated OR models used in the airlines industry.
