RAP Positions

IEOR will be considering candidates for two Research Assistantship (RAP) positions in the following research projects. These two positions are in addition to the regular admissions of candidates in all areas of IEOR.

Project 1: Computational aspects of digital pathology

Supervisors: Narayan Rangaraj (IEOR) and Santosh Noronha (Chemical Engineering & Tata Centre for Technology and Design)

Broad focus of the project is on developing optimal algorithms for two sets of problems inherent to digital pathology: (1) fast near/optimal approaches towards establishing autofocus of objects under very high magnification, and (2) development of an AI tool to classify biopsy samples for rare disease conditions. The candidate may be required to do coursework in image processing and computer vision. The Tata Centre for Technology and Design at IIT Bombay offers fellowships at 1.5x the Institute TA scale.

Project 2: AI for automated threat detection

Supervisor: Prof Manjesh Hanawal, IEOR

As more and more devices are connected to the Internet, it is important that all the software and hardware used in them are free from vulnerabilities and backdoors. The project aims to study how AI/ML techniques can be leveraged to improve the security of these devices and develop algorithms to automatically detect threats. Required backgrounds: CS, ECE, EE, and Maths.
