As part of IIT Bombay Techfest, there is a renewed effort to project the research activities of various groups to visitors and students who come for this event, through a theme called TechConnect.
If any of you would like to participate, please feel free to suggest ideas and initiate activity. You can assure the support from faculty side also.
From the second year batch, Vineet Rongata, Sunil Kumar and a couple of others had met Prof. NR once or twice regarding joint activities in which students could take some initiative. This could be one of them. Other batch students are also encouraged to come forward. If there is willingness, there could be multiple roles for different people to participate.
Some ideas from the faculty side:
- Posters pointing to some of the interesting things being done in our group by students/faculty
- Simulation models (software) exploring aspects of supply chains or other domains
- Game Theory applications
- Interesting mathematical puzzles or concepts that have an O.R. like flavour
Any ideas welcome, especially those initiated by students.
A basic thing could be to design and display some information about our programmes per se.
The main idea is what we want to convey regarding our department to the visitors to this event, who are perhaps interested in science and technology, per se and who are visiting our campus.
Recently added chat facility can be used for the discussions. [Link]
Message from Dr N.N.Viswanathan ( Coordinator, TechFest)
This is regarding techconnect, a part of techfest, which aims to project research and development at IIT-B to the society in general, students and persons from industry, academy and research institutions
in particular. This year, we have planned for a more coordinated effort for the event. In this regard, each department has identified faculty coordinator and I am acting as a coordinator from the Dean R&D’s office.
This year, along with the exhibition of prototypes, models, actual systems, simulations etc., we are also planning to have additional events. Often, the technology/research may involve large systems or many systems which cannot showcased effectively through posters or models. Therefore, we can showcase such systems through 1) short videos and 2) visits to the lab.
Short Videos: These videos can be carefully planned so as to highlight the essence of technology/research involved. Videos may include demonstration of technology transfer to other organizations or collaborative research work with organizations. Dean R & D is ready to provide necessary support in creating these videos.
Visits to the Lab: Interested persons can be allowed to visit some of the labs wherein they can actually appreciate the technology development or research activity. We can think of some demonstrations in the labs also at a specified time. Of course, we need to device appropriate methods to control the crowd visiting laboratories (such as issuing passes). From Dean R & D's office, I have got the list the faculty involved in technology transfer/development. I am addressing specifically those faculty members through this mail. I seek your enthusiastic cooperation towards this activity.
