Seminar by Neeraja Sahasrabudhe

Title of the Talk: Urn Processes and their Applications

Speaker: Dr.Neeraja Sahasrabudhe, Asst. Professor, Dept.of Mathematical Sciences, Mohali.

Day, Date, and Time: Monday, August 28, 2023, 10 AM to 11 AM.

Venue: Seminar room IE 211, Second Floor, IEOR Building.

Abstract: Random systems with multiple components that evolve through self-reinforcement or via interaction with other components of the system have been of great interest in mathematics and applied sciences. Interacting urn processes are one of the ways to model and analyse such systems. In this talk, I will present some recent developments in the area of interacting urn processes. I will introduce a general two-colour interacting urn model and discuss its asymptotic properties. Further extensions of urn models, their connection to preferential attachment trees and their application to opinion dynamics on networks will also be discussed.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Neeraja Sahasrabudhe is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Mohali. Prior to joining IISER Mohali, she spent a few years at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay as a postdoctoral researcher and Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Bangalore as a visiting scientist. She did her masters through the ALGANT program and PhD at the University of Padova, Italy. Her research interests are mainly in the area of random processes with reinforcement and their applications. In particular, she works on Urn Models, Opinion Dynamics and Random Graphs.
