The 51st Annual Convention of the Operational Research Society of India (ORSI) and International Conference (hereafter, ORSI 2018) was conducted at Victor Menezes Convention Centre (VMCC), IIT Bombay, Mumbai, India, from 16th -19th December 2018.

ORSI-2018 was organised jointly by ORSI-Mumbai chapter and IIT Bombay, and was sponsored by Optym (Gold sponsor), JDA, Palisade, Spashta Technologies, Opex Analytics, Springer Publisher and IIT Bombay Diamond Jubilee office.

Prof. Jayendran attended the Sustainability and Development Conference organized at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, on November 9th-11th, 2018. He presented the paper "Does involvement of local community ensure sustained energy access? A critical review of a solar PV technology intervention in rural India", co-authored with Lalita Joshi (SoULS), Deepak Choudhary (SoULS), Praveen Kumar (Boston College), and Chetan Solanki (DESE).  

The Conference on Optimization organised by SIAM (Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics) is amongst the most prestigious conferences in the field of optimization. Research scholar Umakanta Pattanayak presented his work titled "Intersection Cuts for Convex Mixed Integer Programs from Translated Cones" at the SIAM Conference on Optimization (OP17) held in Vancouver, BC, Canada from 22-25 May, 2017. He also received the SIAM Student Travel Award for his work. This was a joint work with Prof. Vishnu Narayanan.

IEOR Day was organized on 18th March 2017 with an objective to bring together industry experts, faculty, students and alumni to discuss developments and share ideas in this field. The theme for the day was analytics.

Prof. Jayendran attended the IEEE International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (IEEM) organized at Bali, Indonesia, on December 4th-6th, 2016. He presented the following two papers:

IEOR students and faculty participated in OR2016 – Annual International Conference of the German Operations Research Society at Helmut Schmdit University, Hamburg, Germany during 30 Aug - 02 Sep 2016.

Tilak Raj Singh, a research scholar, presented a paper on "Optimization models for vehicle planning in the pre-production phase".

Shripad Salsingikar, a research scholar, presented a paper on "Freight train routing and scheduling in a large railway network" co-authored with Prof N. Rangaraj.

IEOR students participated in "SPJIMR-POMS India Chapter Conference on Big Data Analytics for Optimising Supply Chains", at S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai during 29-30 July. 2016.

Siddhartha Paul, a research scholar, presented a paper on "Studying Bullwhip Effect in Supply Chain: A System Dynamics Approach" co-authored with Prof Debabrata Das (IIM Kashipur).

Manu Kumar Gupta defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Dynamic Priority Scheduling in Multi-class Queues: Pricing, Achievable Regions and Applications" on 4th July 2016 at 11:30 am in LC-101 (Lecture Hall Complex).

The research was carried out under the supervision of Prof. J. Venkateswaran and Prof. N. Hemachandra.
