Guidelines for second year students of B.Tech IEOR

These are some general guidelines and information for second year students (24B45**).

1. The courses IE203, IE205, IE207, IE209, and IE211 that are planned in the July-Nov 2025 semester will be open only to IEOR BTechs. No other student will be permitted.

The instructors planned for these courses are as follows:

IE 205Industrial Engineering LabJayendran Venkateswaran + Priyank Sinha + Saurabh Jain
IE 207Industrial SystemsPriyank Sinha

IE 211Programming and Computing LabP. Balamurugan and Urban Larsson

2. In addition you have EC 201 - Economics and ES/HS 250 - Environmental Studies as compulsory courses.

3. In the 3rd sem, no other IEOR course will be open for you (IE5xx, 6xx, 7xx, 8xx courses).  In the Spring (4th semester) we will try to offer additional IEOR courses that you can take as department or honors elective.

4. We have written to CSE department to consider IE203 Data Structures & Algorithms to be considered as equivalent to CS213. This is yet to be approved. If approved, then you can do any CSE course that has CS213 as prerequisite. If approved, you may not be able to do CS213M for minor, and may need to do some other CSE courses instead.

5. For those planning for a minor in CMINDS:  We have written to CMINDS department to exempt IEOR students from DS203 (considering IE211 & IE201) and DS303 (considering IE206). This is yet to be approved. If approved, then you need to do some other courses from CMINDS basket to claim you minor, just like interested CSE students are doing. In CMINDS "Maths" basket most courses are covered as part of core; CMINDS "AI/ML" basket some courses are likely to be dept elective for you anyway; CMINDS "Applied" basket courses are something you can consider.

6. If interested, feel free to take any courses from other departments as STEM Elective/ Flex Elective/ HASMED elective/ Institute elective.  Please talk to your faculty advisor to plan your courses.

7. Feel free to explore and take a chance with various courses across departments.

8. Give all the courses you do a fair chance, and approach them with an open mind.

9. https://www.iitb.ac.in/newacadhome/ugrulebook.pdf is the UG rule book you should refer to, for detailed information about various possibilities
