IEOR e-seminar by Dr. Lakshman Mahto

Title: An optimization based stability and learning of a dynamical system.

Speaker: Dr. Lakshman Mahto, Assistant Professor, IIIT, Dharwad.

Day, Date and Time: Wednesday, November 10, 2021, 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.

Abstract:

In this talk, I focus on two problems in the interface of optimization (in particular, polynomial optimization, sum of squares programming, semidefinite programming) and dynamical system (in particular, stability, region of attraction and learning vector field), and statistics (In particular, estimation problems). First, after a brief review of PSD polynomials and Lyapunov functions, I discuss computation of Lyapunov stability and its applications. Second, I discuss learning of an unknown vector field of a dynamical system from noisy observations of a few trajectories and subject to few intrinsic properties of the system.

Brief biography:

I am currently working as an assistant professor (Mathematics) at the Indian Institute of Information Technology Dharwad, where I teach routinely courses on computational mathematics and statistics. Prior to joining IIIT Dharwad, I worked as a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. S. Kesavan at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences Chennai, on nonlinear analysis and control. I completed my doctoral thesis, under the guidance of Dr. Syed Abbas at the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi, on dynamical systems with impulsive effects and its application to control problems and ecological systems.
