Title: PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF INDUSTRIAL MACHINERY USING RELIABILITY ANALYSIS

Speaker: Dr. Balaraju Jakkula, Assistant Professor, Aditya Engineering College, Andhra Pradesh.

Day, Date and Time: Monday, November 15, 2021, 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.

Abstract:

In the present day global competitive business environment, the prevalence of multi-dimensional challenges for industries have made the survival fight extremely tough due to serious competition among them. Survival of industries has become more critical in the present global competitive business environment unless they produce goods and services- that are competitive in many dimensions like quality, price and reliability etc. The accomplishment of this can be possible only by optimizing the human and machinery resources in an efficient and effective manner. Hence, it is more essential to estimate the performance of utilized equipment for reaching/achieving future goals. “Reliability estimation” plays a significant role in the performance evaluation for a complex repairable system. The performance of equipment mainly depends upon the usage, working atmosphere, effectiveness of maintenance, operational procedures and technical skill of the operators. Scientific and reliable performance forecasts enable us to organize the maintenance and operational activities at their best levels.

The present study focuses on the estimation of underground mining machinery such as the load–haul–dump (LHD) machine performance characteristics using ‘Isograph Reliability Workbench 13.0’ software. The allocation of best-fit/goodness-of-fit distribution was made by utilizing the Kolmogorov–Smirnov (K–S) statistical test. Parameters were recorded based on the best-fitted results using the Maximum Likelihood Estimate (MLE) test. Reliability of each individual sub-system has been computed according to the best fit distribution. In addition to that, reliability based preventive maintenance (PM) time schedules were calculated for the expected 90% reliability level. Further, Reliability Modelling (RM) techniques such as Reliability Block Diagram (RBD), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Markov (MKV) Modelling were utilized to estimate the overall system reliability; identify the critical components of the system; perform root cause analysis of the failure behaviour and to improve the system reliability. In addition to that, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of the systems were estimated and validated with World class standards. Finally, computed results were validated with the MATLAB based feed-forward back- propagation artificial neural network (ANN) tool and the Fuzzy Interface System (FIS). This study enabled us to make recommendations to the industry that would beneficiate significant improvement of system performance.
