IEOR at IIT Bombay is looking for senior professionals who have an academic interest in teaching and research, to join us as a full time “Professor of Practice”. The person should have experience of a minimum of 15 years in industry/government/public service domains and be able to work on contemporary areas of an applied nature relevant to IE & OR. The area of work would typically involve systems understanding, a data driven approach to analysis and use of some technologies relevant to operations research (e.g. optimisation, simulation, stochastic models, data science, AI/ML etc). A Ph.D. is desirable, but not required. There should be some record of technical publication in journals, professional conferences and other forums, preferably in the past 5 years. The candidate should be willing to teach two semester long courses a year to students of IIT Bombay, and work with students of IEOR, IIT Bombay on Master’s projects and perhaps doctoral thesis work. The appointment is initially for 3-5 years, and renewable.
Currently IEOR offers application courses in the areas of operations management, supply chain, service and infrastructure systems, health care, financial engineering and other application areas. A Professor of Practice is expected to offer at least one such course, either an existing one or develop new courses. The candidate is also expected to initiate and participate in sponsored or funded research from government and private funding sources.
