IEOR Seminar by Kousik Das

Title of talk: Computational aspects of discrete-time bulk queueing systems with correlation in arrival and/or service processes

Speaker: Dr. Kausik Das, Temporary Faculty at National Institute of Technology, Raipur

Day, Date, and Time: Thursday, 27th  June, 2024, 11 AM to 12 PM.

Venue: Seminar room IE 211, Second Floor, IEOR Building.

Abstract: A queueing system is composed of customers or units requiring some kind of service, which arrive at random time to a service facility where such service is provided, join a queue if service is immediately unavailable, and eventually leave after receiving service. Now, the discrete-time queues are such where the time axis is slotted in intervals of equal length with the length of the slot being unity.  In my doctoral research, I have investigated discrete-time queues with batch arrival and/or batch service including correlation in arrival processes and/ or service processes. Here, queueing system consists of single server with infinite waiting capacity. These queues are thoroughly examined in terms of both their theoretical and parametrized numerical diversifications. Also, real-life applications of some models are discussed in detail.

The presentation will begin with basic foundations of my investigated queueing systems followed by motivation and proposed methodology of my doctoral research. Then I will discuss the model set-up and brief key contributions of my six doctoral research problems chapter wise. Subsequently, I will talk about mathematical briefs of some results for one of my best papers. Finally, talk will highlight ongoing challenges and future plan for my postdoctoral research.
