Title: Digital Twin–Enabled Approaches to Manufacturing and Supply Network Configuration

Abstract: Digital Twin (DT) technology has emerged as a transformative enabler for modern manufacturing and supply chain systems, facilitating real-time synchronization between physical and digital environments. By integrating data, simulation, and analytics, DTs support diverse applications such as product design, predictive maintenance, and production planning, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and decision-making. Despite its growing recognition, existing research remains largely conceptual, with limited attention to practical implementation. This presentation explores DT-enabled approaches in manufacturing and supply network configuration domains, emphasizing methodological development and experimental outcomes. Specifically, it presents the development of DTs for a toy car assembly line to support operational-level decisions and for reconfigurable supply networks to guide tactical–strategic configuration decisions, offering insights into performance improvement, system flexibility, and digital integration.

Bio: Subodha Dharmapriya is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. She is currently serving as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR), IIT Bombay, under the India Science and Research Fellowship (ISRF) Programme funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA). She holds a BSc in Production Engineering from the University of Peradeniya and a PhD from the University of Wollongong, Australia. Her research interests encompass simulation modelling, metaheuristic optimisation, multi-agent optimisation, and their applications in supply chain and logistics systems.
