IEOR students, Ms. Chhavi Sharma and Ms. Vanessa Ann Beddoe Sawkmie have been awarded the highly competitive ACM-W scholarships for attendance to research conferences.
Ms. Chavvi has been awarded the scholarship to attend & present her work at the Neural Information Processing Systems(NeurIPS) workshop on Beyond First order methods in ML to be held at Vancouver, Canada in December 2019. Ms. Vanessa has been awarded the scholarship to attend and present her work at the IEEE IEEM conference to be held at Macau in December 2019.

SoULS Initiative, IIT Bombay wins the 1st Grand Prize in the IEEE's Empower a Billion Lives (EBL) competition. The Finals were held from Sept 28th to Oct 1st in Baltimore, USA. The award includes a citation and a grand prize of $100,000.

The Freshers Welcome Party was organised by the second year students on the 31st of August. The fun filled gathering started with Prof. Jayendran Venkateswaran, Head IEOR Department, addressing the newcomers followed by addresses by faculty members Prof. N. Hemachandra and Prof. Ashutosh Mahajan. There were short games to break the ice. A leisurely photoshoot and pizzas marked the conclusion of this ceremony.

The Department of IEOR is happy to announce that Prof. Jayendran Venkateswaran has been appointed as the new Head of the Department as of 22 August, 2019.
"Naval Operations Analysis” (NOA) CEP course, a 16 week program, was conducted full-time from 28th Jan 2019 to 17th May 2019 for officers of the Indian Navy. The course covered basic mathematics, data analysis, applied probability and statistics, simulation, optimization, game theory and specialized topics in Naval Operations (viz., Combat models, Search and Detection). The student officers also did a month long projects. Many faculty and students contributed to this course.
The IEOR Day 2019 was conducted at Victor Menezes Convection centre (VMCC), at IIT Bombay, Mumbai, India from 30th - 31st March 2019. IEOR Day 2019 was powered by McKinsey Knowledge Centre and IIT Bombay Diamond Jubilee office. The theme was “Recent Trends in Operations Research and Management”. In this event, a total of about 160+ registrations were made which includes students, faculty members, and industry professionals.
International Workshop on Games and Networks was held on 3rd August 2019, at Lecture Complex, IIT Bombay. The workshop included talks by Prof.Kaushik Basu (Cornell University), Prof. Surajit Borkotokey (Dibrugarh University), Prof. Rajnish Kumar (Queen’s University Belfast), Jaideep Roy (University of Bath), Sudipta Sarangi (Virginia Tech), Saptarshi Ghosh (IIT Bombay), Diganta Mukherjee (ISI Kolkata), Jayakrishnan Nair (IIT Bombay), Alexandre Reiffers (IISc).
A one-day workshop on "Suburban Rail Operations Planning" was conducted on 21st June 2019 at VMCC, IIT Bombay. The workshop was attended by Railway personnel from Central, Western, South Central, Southern, South Eastern and Eastern Railways and also Delhi and Bengaluru Metro Corporation, apart from students & faculty of IIT Bombay
