PG Sports 2010-11 Briefings

The Sports Season has come to an end with lots of stories.  Here is a glimpse of PG sports of the year 2010-11 through a very nice video.

At the beginning of the season IEOR came up with its department Sports Jersey and Logo which is shown below. The name warrIEORs was the result of a group discussion where many names came up and in the end a name suggested by Krishna Chaitanya V was finalized. T-shirt design was a joint effort of Bharat Singh Raghav, Sunil Kumar and Mukul Sharma.

.

The Sports season kicked off with Badminton, where in Men’s category we had expectations for a medal, But team IEOR consisting of Pritam Kamble, Yogesh Valunj and Debayan Das lost with a very small difference in the first match itself. Women’s Team for Badminton consisting of Supriya Chitale , Ketki Kulkarni and Varsha Suralkar also lost their first match.

Then came the Table Tennis event. Both our teams won their first games. The teams were: Men: Vineet Rongata, Debayan Das and Rajesh - Women: Chandrama Naha, Varsha Suralkar and Neha Phatak.

We lost our first matches in Carom both in women’s and men’s category. The teams were Men: Pratik Fadadu, Raju Ingulkar and Sunil Kumar - Women: Varsha Suralkar , Violet Bhattacharya and  Sweety Hansuwa.

The women's Chess Team won two matches in sucession. The team members were Ketki Kulkarni, Varsha Suralkar and Indu Chaudhury.

Then Phase 2 of PG sports began.

Phase 2  began with Football. The image is of the   moment when Team IEOR won their first match.  During this, K.C.Lalropuia was recognized as a very good footballer from the fresh pool of talent. Alok Patel who was already recognized as a good footballer has played for the team even though he was ill.  Alok's illness may be considered as the reason for the loss in the 2nd match.

IEOR had a history of having a good volley-ball team; this year also the team had many enthusiastic players. IEOR lost the first game after reaching a deuce. The only lag in the team was because of lack of a potential spiker. In this match K C Lalropuia and Sunil Kumar's performances were exceptionally good.

Athletics brought a good start for IEOR. Robin Bhandari won a silver medal in 200 m race.  This was the first medal for IEOR.

And then medal machine Inter IIT player Ketki Kulkarni did what she had to do in Lawn Tennis and came up with a gold.

IEOR lost their 1st cricket match, and with this, the season ended.

Special thanks to IEOR Sports Secretary Bharat Singh Raghav.
