Title of talk - Optimization in Public Transport
Time - 9.30 a.m., Tuesday, 30 October, 2012
Venue Room 211, Mech Engg Department
Abstract: The talk will describe work in various aspects of public transportation planning (both buses and trains), including (a) line planning (or route structuring) (b) timetabling and (c) delay management. Models and solution approaches for these problems will be described, along with examples from public transport applications in Europe. The techniques include Mathematical Programming and heuristics to solve hard optimization problems. Recent research questions will also be described.
Speaker: Dr Anita Schoebel is a Professor in the Institute of Numerical and Applied Mathematics in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Gottingen, Germany. She has her Ph.D. from the Univ of Kaiserslauten in 1998 and moved to Gottingen in 2004.
