On March 15, 2026, the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR) at IIT Bombay hosted its annual flagship event, IEOR Day 2026. This year’s theme, “OR in the Age of Generative AI,” brought together students, researchers, and industry professionals for a day of engaging talks and discussions.
The event featured a series of insightful talks exploring how Operations Research is evolving alongside advances in generative AI. Speakers highlighted the growing synergy between classical optimization techniques and modern AI systems, and discussed emerging applications across domains such as decision-making and large-scale systems.
The speaker lineup included Kuldeep Kulkarni, Dheeraj M. Nagaraj, Amit Chakrabarty, Arunselvan Ramaswamy, Ruchir Santuka, Nitish K., and Poonam Goyal, who shared perspectives from both academia and industry.
The panel discussions, featuring Dr. Tilak Raj Singh, Dr. Anurag Ladage, Prashant Trivedi, G.V.L. Satyakumar (CRIS), Mustafa Vora, and Varun Ramamohan, sparked engaging conversations on the future of OR in an AI-driven world. The discussions explored how generative AI can complement traditional OR approaches, while also highlighting important considerations around the ethical use and trustworthiness of AI, as well as the evolving skill sets required in the field.
The event saw enthusiastic participation, with lively interactions and discussions throughout the day.
IEOR Day 2026 also marked an important milestone with the announcement of the department’s upcoming 50th year. A series of exciting events and celebrations are planned in the coming months to commemorate this journey.
IEOR Day 2026 was made possible with the generous support of our sponsors—DecisionOpt, Accura Pharmaquip, Gurobi Optimization, Lyric, and Institution of Eminence, IITB. We sincerely thank them for their continued encouragement and support.
The department thanks all speakers, panelists, organizers, and participants for making the event a success.
Best regards,
