Convocation, Class of 2021

 

The 59th Convocation of IIT Bombay was held on 7th August 2021 in virtual mode. The main function of the convocation was held in the afternoon with Prof. Geoffrey Hinton, FRS, University of Toronto as chief guest.

The department convocation function was held at 4:30 PM, with Chief Guest Dr. G Raghuram, Former Director, IIMB and Mr. Nivesh Kumar as Special guests.

Prof. Jayendran Venkateswaran, Head of Department IEOR, presented the department report which was followed by an introduction of the graduating batch. Dr. G Raghuram presented his views on reflections of algorithmic practices from an ethical point of view. Mr. Nivesh Kumar congratulated the graduating batch and provided useful guidance for their careers ahead.

A total of 42 (3 interim convocations) degrees were conferred, including Ph.D. (4), MSc-PhD dual degree (2), first M.Tech-Ph.D dual degree (1),  M.Tech (20), M.Sc (11), IDDDP (1) and PGDIIT (3).

Dr. Arun Verma was awarded the Naik and Rastogi Award for Excellence in Ph.D. Research for his thesis Sequential Decision Problems with Weak Feedback. Dr. Tejas Ghorpade was awarded the first ever IEOR Alumnus Endowment: Excellence in Doctoral Dissertation Award for her thesis on Models for Allocation and Routing Decisions in Freight Transportation.

Saurav Pathak and Sayan Chatterjee were jointly awarded the first ever IEOR Alumnus Endowment: Best Masters’ Thesis Award. Sayan Chatterjee was also awarded the Institute silver medal.

IEOR congratulates all the graduates of the Class of 2021.
