Abstract: In most of the resource scheduling and optimization problems that arise in industry and business, resources are limited and scheduling activities by optimizing resources plays a crucial role. In addition, resources are often interlinked imposing restrictions on their independent usage. This leads to constrained resource scheduling problems. A good number of resource scheduling problems are NP-hard. Besides being NP-hard, the main difficulty in real-world problems arises from the size of the problems. There is a constant quest for new models, approaches, and algorithms to address this issue and provide implementable solutions to real-world problems. In this seminar, we talk about resource scheduling formulations for four real-world problems, from the industry, that provide easily computable and implementable solutions.

About the Speaker: Dr T.R.Lalita has completed her PhD in Operations Research from Indian Statistical Institute. Her PhD thesis is titled “Mathematical Formulations for Complex Resource Scheduling Problems”. Her research interests are scheduling and optimization problems with real-world applicability. She has teaching experience at the University of Delhi and Hyderabad Central University. She is currently working as a consultant with the Airports Authority of India.
