IEOR Seminar by Dr. Lakshman Mahto

Title of talk: An optimization based stability and learning of a dynamical system

Speaker: Dr. Lakshman Mahto, Assistant Professor (Mathematics), IIIT Dharwad.

Venue: IEOR 211 (Seminar Hall), Second Floor, IEOR Building.

Day, Date and Time: Monday, September 19, 2022, 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM.

Abstract: In this talk, I focus on two problems in the interface of optimization (in particular, polynomial optimization, sum of squares programming, semidefinite programming), dynamical system (in particular, stability, region of attraction and learning vector field), and statistics (In particular, estimation problems). First, after a brief review of PSD polynomials and Lyapunov functions, I discuss computation of Lyapunov stability and its applications. Second, I discuss learning of an unknown vector field of a dynamical system from noisy observations of a few trajectories and subject to few intrinsic properties of the system.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Lakshman Mahto is currently working as an assistant professor (Mathematics) at the Indian Institute of Information Technology Dharwad, where he teaches courses on computational mathematics and statistics. Prior to joining IIIT Dharwad, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. S. Kesavan at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences Chennai, on nonlinear analysis and control. He completed his doctoral thesis, under the guidance of Dr. Syed Abbas at the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi, on dynamical systems with impulsive effects and its application to control problems and ecological systems.
