IEOR students Simran Lakhani, Rahul Vaishnav, and Harinarayan NU presented work in SOM22: 25th Annual International Conference of the Society of Operations Management (SOM) organized at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore during 16-18 December 2022.
1. Rahul presented his work on Distribution network for a commodity with reverse flows. The work includes a reallocation of the network and a proposal for the reverse flow of commodities in the network. Further, it recommends the consolidation of intermediate hubs into significantly fewer super hubs to ensure efficient use of the commodity in the region and the reduction in overall cost.
2. Hari Narayan presented his ongoing work regarding the extension/adaptation and analysis of a deep reinforcement learning framework (attention module-based encoder-decoder model as policy function) for capacitated single vehicle pickup and delivery problems.
3. Simran presented her ongoing work on managing patient flows in hospitals using quantitative methods. It concerns appointment scheduling of patients to the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine of the radiology department of a multi-specialty hospital.
The society of Operations Management is dedicated to exploring and understanding issues related to the Production and Operations Management field. The society aims to promote activities that help generate, consolidate, and disseminate knowledge in the field of manufacturing and service operations and related areas. SOM organizes conferences, summer schools, and workshops in an effort to share knowledge and motivate researchers and practitioners to achieve their goals.
