IEOR Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the department’s unique culture and share ideas and experiences with our community. This year the IEOR day was celebrated on 1st April, 2023 at the Victor Menezes Convention Center (VMCC), IIT Bombay based on the theme “Digital Transformation for Operational Excellence”. Many leading experts from industry and academia presented and discussed their ongoing work and future challenges in the event.
Mr. Siddaraju H.V., founder and CEO of Caliper Business Solution delivered an informative talk on the digitalization of supply chain and the ongoing challenges. The talk provided the audience with insights into real-world industry problems and the future trajectory of supply chain digitization.
Mr. Dinesh Damodaran, Director of Strategy Consulting Services at JDA Software delivered an insightful talk on heuristic vs. optimization-based approaches. Mr. Damodaran provided discerning views on how to tackle industry problems using heuristics and optimization.
Dr. Anoop K.P, Post-Doctoral Fellow at IEOR, IIT Bombay presented his work on “A decision support tool for food grain transport planning”.
Mr. Mufassir Khan, Operations Research Scientist at KiranaKart and an IEOR alum, discussed the current trends for Operations Research in Quick Commerce.
Mr. Mufassir Khan and Ms. Khyati Thakkar, Assistant Manager-Data Science at Unilever and an IEOR alum, were the guests for panel discussion on “How to develop better models using AI/ML” was moderated by Prof. Ashutosh Mahajan. The panelists provided industry insights on tackling model development for solving real-world problems.
PhD students presented their ongoing research works in a poster session during the lunch hours. Mr. Mustafa Vora, Mr. Bheesm Sharma, Ms. Kritika Karwasra, Ms. Khusboo Agarwal, Mr. Akshay Vilas Upasany, and Ms. Simran Lakhani participated in the poster presentation.
PhD students also delivered Ph.D. Lightning Talks to the audience where they discussed their research achievements. Mr. Tushar Walunj, Mr. Mustafa Vora, Mr. Akshay Vilas Upasany, and Mr. Sitadri Roy Choudhary delivered the PhD talks.
The IEOR day also involved fun ice-breaking sessions by Prof. Urban Larsson and Prof. Manjesh Hanawal. Prof. Larsson engaged the audience in a game theory-based Nims game. Prof. Hanawal’s “Online Beer Game” was a group activity with winners receiving prizes, winner team consists of Aakash Saha, Shivam Mishra, S. Teja and Prashant Trivedi. To mark the IEOR day, the department magazine, “Optimistic” was launched during the event.
