Applications are invited for the PhD programme in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR).

Selection Process
The selection process consists of a written aptitude test and interviews (both in-person). Hostel accommodation at IIT Bombay campus is available for students to attend in-person interviews. The dates of written test/interviews are as follows:
Written Test: Forenoon of May 12, 2026. Venue: LC101, Lecture Hall Complex, IIT Bombay
Interviews: Afternoon of May 12, and May 13-14, 2026. Venue: IEOR Office, IIT Bombay

An email has been sent to all shortlisted candidates, inviting them to appear for the written test and interviews. If you are unable to attend the written test on May 12, please email admissions@ieor.iitb.ac.in.

The department actively conducts research in all areas of IE and OR, including Data Science, AI/ML, Deep Learning, Financial Engineering, Game Theory, Healthcare Operations, Logistics and Supply Chain, Network Science and Random Graphs, Optimization Models Theory and Algorithms, Optimal Control, Planning Scheduling and Control in Industry 5.0, Simulation Modeling and Analysis, Social Networks, Stochastic Models.

Important Notes:
- TA offers will be based as per the IITB seat matrix. TA students will need to sign up with a faculty supervisor in the first semester after joining, based on mutual interests.
- Those who applied for TA or RA category are also eligible to be considered for admissions in the TAP or RAP category under specific projects with specific faculty members. The list of 9 projects is given on this page. At the time of interviews, you can give a ranked preference of the projects you would like to be considered for. The final offer will be based on your preferences.
- Those who applied only for FA/IS/PS/SW/EX/SF can reach out to any of the IEOR faculty members you are interested to work with.
