Workshop on Games at IIT Bombay 2022

A one-day workshop on Games been held on 6th December 2022. Two prominent speakers delivered short courses on Corruption and Stochastic Choice.

Speaker: Chandan  Kumar Jha, Madden School of Business at Le Moyne College,
Topic: Empirical research on corruption - Challenges and new practices
Abstract: Corruption is one of the biggest challenges the world is facing today,  adversely impacting human life. To be able to effectively control corruption, it is crucial to understand what gives rise to corruption and sustain its prevalence. In the last few decades, a plethora of empirical research on corruption has provided us with important insights into the causes and consequences of corruption. This workshop discusses some of the main challenges to studying corruption empirically. It begins with the definition of corruption and challenges in its measurement for the purpose of empirical research. The second part outlines the identification issues in corruption research. The final part discusses methods and techniques employed by researchers, using selected journal articles, to overcome these challenges.

Speaker: Matthew Kovac, Virginia Tech
Title: Stochastic Choice
Abstract:  In many settings, an analyst (researcher, econometrician, etc.) observes a distribution of behavior. For example, we may know the proportion of individuals buying particular products. Alternatively, we may think about the probability that a particular agent takes some action. Both of these scenarios can be described by stochastic choice. Understanding the distribution of behavior is important for making economic predictions (e.g., forecasting demand) or measuring consumer welfare. In this lecture, an introduction to the basic foundations of stochastic choice modeling and a discussion on recent advances took place.
