Stochastic Processes on Networks (SPoN) Workshop Organised by IEOR, IIT Bombay

The Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR), IIT Bombay, organized the Stochastic Processes on Networks (SPoN) Workshop on 2–3 August 2026 as part of the IEOR Golden Jubilee celebrations.

The workshop featured distinguished lectures by Prof. Ayalvadi Ganesh, University of Bristol, who delivered a three-lecture series on Rumour Spreading on Networks, and Prof. Vsevolod Shneer, Heriot-Watt University, who presented a three-lecture series on First Passage Percolation. The research programme also featured talks by researchers from leading institutions including IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IISER Mohali, IISER Pune and IISc Bangalore.

The SPoN Vibe Coding Challenge, sponsored by KPIT, was also organised as part of the workshop. Students participated in teams of two, with the teams formed based on randomly assigned twists. Each team developed a simulation based on stochastic processes and networks. Three teams were recognised as winners for their simulations and implementations.

The workshop provided a platform for participants to engage with recent developments in stochastic processes and network science, while fostering academic interaction and collaboration among students and researchers working in related areas.
