A talk titled “Learning Mathematics Through Combinatorial Game Theory” was delivered by Prof. Urban Larsson, Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR), IIT Bombay, on 24 September 2026. The talk was held from 3:30–4:30 PM at Ramanujan Hall, Department of Mathematical Sciences.
Prof. Narayan Rangaraj and PhD scholar Sachin Bodke from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR) recently visited the Bhusawal and Nagpur Divisions of Central Railway on 17 and 18 September to understand rail freight operations, and explore opportunities to improve freight transportation of various commodities.
Sachin Bodke, a PhD scholar under Prof. Narayan Rangaraj at IEOR, recently completed an internship at Knorr-Bremse Technology Center India Pvt. Ltd. During the internship, he worked on an AI-powered Customs Classification Assistant designed to identify and correct customs classification codes in SAP material records while keeping humans in the loop for final decisions. The project combined rule-based validation, diagnosis, semantic search, and rationale techniques to suggest possible customs codes across the EU region.
The Golden Jubilee celebrations of IEOR, IIT Bombay were formally inaugurated on 3 September 2026, commemorating 50 years of the department’s journey from 1976 to 2026.
The occasion brought together faculty, students, alumni and staff, the Golden Jubilee team, and the Director of IIT Bombay to celebrate this significant milestone. The inaugural gathering marked the beginning of a year-long celebration of IEOR’s legacy, achievements, community, and vision for the future.
