Prof. Narayan Rangaraj and PhD scholar Sachin Bodke from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR) recently visited the Bhusawal and Nagpur Divisions of Central Railway on 17 and 18 September to understand rail freight operations, and explore opportunities to improve freight transportation of various commodities.
Himanshu Maurya and Vishwas J Singh attend the Industry meetup for the IoT sandbox project on 7th and 8th of September 2026. The meeting was organised in Lemon Tree Hotel , Electronic city , Bengaluru . We presented our updated work on the project and the future directions in which we shall be working. The project mainly focuses on 2 tasks: 1) Development of ML algorithms for automated threat detection in IoT devices and 2) Firmware reverse engineering
The IEOR community came together for an exciting Intra-Department Volleyball Tournament on 4th October 2026 at the Indoor Volleyball Court, bringing together the entire IEOR family — students, faculty members, project researchers, and interns at the court for a sporting evening of interaction, fun and competitive spirit.
Satyajeet Rao, a second-year M.Tech student in IEOR, IIT Bombay, attended SEMICON India 2026 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The event was centred on the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem.”
The event brought together government representatives, global semiconductor companies, industry leaders, startups, investors and academia. Inaugural sessions, including an interaction with Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, offered insights into India’s vision for building a globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem.
Neeraj Kumar, a PhD student from the department of Industrial Engineering and operations research attended a four-day PhD school on Nonlinear Mixed-Integer and Complementarity-Constrained Optimization in Freiburg, Germany. The school covered nonlinear optimization, mixed-integer nonlinear optimization (MINLO), and optimization with complementarity constraints, spanning theoretical foundations, computational methods, and modelling practice. Hands-on Python sessions using CasADi applied these methods to problems in energy systems, engineering, and decision-making.
Debanjan Gangopadhyay, a Ph.D. student in the IEOR department, attended the Advanced School on Large Scale Optimization (LSO), on the topics of Cutting Planes and Column Generation. The workshop was organized by the Department of Management Studies at IIT Roorkee, from September 30-October 4, 2026. The workshop brought together researchers in the field of large scale optimization, from different institutions across India.
Divya Jyoti Bajpai, a Ph.D. Research Scholar in IEOR, IIT Bombay, under the guidance of Prof. Manjesh Kumar Hanawal, has been recognized among “India’s Top 100 AI/ML Researchers” by Amazon under its Amazon AI100 initiative.
A talk titled “Learning Mathematics Through Combinatorial Game Theory” was delivered by Prof. Urban Larsson, Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR), IIT Bombay, on 24 September 2026. The talk was held from 3:30–4:30 PM at Ramanujan Hall, Department of Mathematical Sciences.
